Unkindness Page 8
A new page! For reference to the song (briefly) featured in the final panel:
(Or, as K. likes it, in this format.)
A lullaby K. was taught growing up in New Orleans, “fais dodo” has the distinction of meaning two different things in Creole culture: telling children to go to sleep and letting adults know it’s time for a party. Will this chapter be a sleepy one or a roaring dance party? Who knows…
Poor kid *really* doesn’t like funerals…
just want to mention, that you cant navigate with the arrow keys from the last page to this one. They are grey… I hope you can fix this! 😀 btw. I think its great how Arthurs hair structure is changing when his hair is wet. Why doens’t he has an umbrella?
uh, know its possible… Strange.. so, nevermind…
I never though I’d hear such a song here. It is commonly sang to French children to rock them to sleep; I sure didn’t match it with toombs!
(Sorry for the double-post .:/ ) I just realized your drawing style has gotten better lately. Or at least it’s what I feel! Or maybe the colouring is also better. Or both. Anyway, it’s great.
You’re right…I went back to the beginning and I can definitely see the difference.
(I may accidentally be rereading the whole comic now…)
K Here: I think A.’s style has really gelled! Drawing 8-12 hours a day over the course of two years is probably the culprit, I’m really impressed with how their style has come into its own and really captures what I think we were originally going for in the comic. I’m glad everyone enjoys it! 🙂 <3
Arthur looks strangely attractive on this page…
I finally got caught up! (Found out about you guys through a random comic from your other series) I can’t wait for more!
Another question: Do people in America buy black umbrellas exclusively for funerals? In every american movie or comic I found black umbrellas at funerals D: Effectively it would be strange to wear all black under a rainbow umbrella… I’m asking it because in Italy we mainly abandoned the tradition of wearing black for mourning , so I’m not very inexperienced about “burial’s etiquette” ( also searching “american funerals” on google doesn’t help .__. ) :c I hope my question doesn’t sound too much strange or retarded
Black is the traditional color for an adult’s umbrella, although you do get some dark blues or greens. You usually don’t see anyone but children or teenagers using one in bright colors. I don’t know why.
A lot of people buy black umbrellas because they match everything and are ALWAYS in stock. I had the great misfortune of having nothing but a bright red umbrella (THE SHAME!) in my car for a particular funeral. I quickly folded it when we got to the gravesite and huddled under one of my cousin’s black ones.
As a New Orleanian (of the “how’s ya momma an’ them” variety), I nearly freaked out when I saw the words in the background haha. Tell A. they are doing great!! I mean, this rain, seriously. I can almost feel it hitting my skin it’s so well drawn.
Wow my grand mother used to sing that song and “une souris verte ” when i was young ^^
Wait… When Gaki (Geoffrey) was singing in the car, “I just want a lover like any other, what do I get” that song by the BuzzKocks I think, was that a future reference? Holy shit so many layers and foreshadowing to this story!
