Fragile speaks Creole, not Spanish, which likely explains it 🙂
I’m guessing that Fragile means that C.E. may not be able to see the darkness in Raven, or may be crediting him with more innocence than he deserves.
He’s cheerful and smiley, but he also murdered both his parents in a spree of bloodlust (to be fair, demonic/vampiric bloodlust, not his *fault* — but Fragile may be implying that C.E. is overlooking some type of evil in him.)
Also, on a totally unrelated note, this reminds me of a wonderful exchange from “The Tick” . . .
Arthur: “No offense intended!”
The Tick, with a broad smile: “NONE COMPREHENDED!”
He’s not implying Fragile is speaking Spanish, he’s saying that English not being his first language makes it difficult to understand.
Though I don’t think that has anything to do with it, English isn’t my first language either but I speak it very well and I didn’t get what Fragile was saying at all. Being blind means you can’t even see smiles which makes it even more convoluted.
Guess he’s mentioning Elvish, not English. He means that Fragile’s words are a bit too perplexed. Hm, she really could be just a tiny little bit more straightforward if it was so important. Couldn’t get the idea she was trying to come along with. It can be some backstory we don’t know yet, or some prophecy about future we don’t know either, or just anything else.
This all gets more and more tangled with every page…
If she’s talking about dark roads, I’m thinking she might be talking about that time Raven crashed? Saying C.E. might’ve missed him coming, maybe she was there… =_=
I wish I understood what Fragile was trying to say here… Sounds important. I’m sure this will make perfect sense in ten or fifteen years when we finally get told what’s going on XD
I feel like this might have two meanings – here is the original phrase “Bèl dan pa vle di zanmi: dan pa kè.” – A nice smile does not mean friends – teeth are not the heart. Fragile may be implying that either Raven is deceived with CE or CE is deceived with Raven. If Raven does not know himself very well, then the warning is to him about how he might lose control and hurt CE – if Raven knows himself very well, then the warning might be about how he does not know CE and how she might hurt him. Either way, Fragile is attempting to warn him of instability with his relationship with a super-being. But under the circumstances, that would be pretty obvious, ammirite? It’s pretty vague, honestly…
Go back 2 pages, there was one slipped in I missed (maybe a double update). I think CE was the one who bit him and caused him to kill his parents. She is definitely the man with the sickness who kept trying to find a cure. Remy mentions she is sometimes a he, often an it.
I’m not sure that C.E. is that kind of a supernatural being. Look at how Arthur reacts to Mr. Montgomery in TWG16- he wants to kill him, yet he seems comfortable with C.E. It seems like Arthur would “see” C.E. as a horrible creature were she the vampire, who he describes as a ‘demon.’
If you look at the page there is a broken pair of glasses, Raven wears no glasses. CE does, also Fragile makes mention that CE has bad vision. It is my opinion that Fragile is warning Raven that he is in bed with his maker without knowing it.
“Bèl dan pa vle di zanmi: dan pa kè.”
Nice teeth do not mean friends: teeth are not the heart.
I’m pretty sure that Fragile is threatening Raven just a bit here. It makes sense: he has at least one bloody murder in his past (fittingly enough, it even involved teeth and he does smile a ton); I think she’s implying that now that C.E. is blind again she’s an easier target and that Raven could harm her.
It’ll be interesting to find out if Raven is just going to be under constant scrutiny and this is misplaced, or if he really is a crazed killer who is just way too good at hiding his depravity.
Why are we assuming Raven is the threat? I read this entire page as Fragile threatening Raven and C.E. — as in, Fragile is going to do something.
She is the outsider to this group, remember, and she leads a gang. It’s like a mafia threat.
“Just because I’m working with you doesn’t mean I’m friends with any of you. C.E. is blind right now, she might not have known if it wasn’t you who walked into that room until it was too late.”
I don’t know… even though Fragile was recruited under violent circumstances she has so far shown herself to be a fairly decent person: she has helped Mary and Arthur on a couple occasions as well as showing a kindness to her granddaughter(?) who was pregnant. While not to be underestimated, she doesn’t seem to mean anyone harm unless they harm her or hers.
Being nice sometimes isn’t the same as not being a threat to the organization that pressganged you into service. It would perfectly fit for her to be nice to the underlings (which is basically what Mary and Arthur are) while all the while planning to take CE down a peg.
Hell, it’s entirely possible, if a little unlikely, that her helping Mary out is more an attempt to get an ally inside CE’s organization.
sheesh!
I love this guy. Even if he turns out to be evil, I’d still find him awesome.
OOhh, that did not occur to me.
“mighta missed you coming”
Missed him coming when? As in “swing and miss?” Or as in she gest lonely without him?
I assume it’s the first, but I still don’t get the reference.
Yeah, I kinda get him here. Spanish is my first language and I didn’t understand a word of this 🙁

And…
I’m lost.
Me, too. What exactly is Fragile(I think she has never looked as good as in today’s page <3) trying to say???
If she’s talking about dark roads, I’m thinking she might be talking about that time Raven crashed? Saying C.E. might’ve missed him coming, maybe she was there… =_=
YEP. (As far as I understand it, which I’m 99% sure is correct.)
Just “there” is a bit of an understatement…

Loving Raven a bit more with every page…
So… CE is the person he hit on the road that day? I didn’t think she was a vampire.

D:
gaaaaaaaaaaaasp!!
Is she saying Raven hit CE in that crash and CE’s the one that turned him?
And she’s nice to him but she’s no angel/real friend?
Guys. She means he was the one who hit her on the road.
Okay all this speculation is awesome and I’d like to get into that but… is anyone else extremely attracted to the third panel?
Panel # 3. SWOON. 🙂
