Things were bound to get bloodier.

And in case you missed it, K and I had a little podcast hangout Q & A while working on comics! I won’t lie to you, it’s essentially two hours of semi-informative weirdness, but that’s just how we do life. Enjoy!
RAVEN. NO
If a biter drinks alcohol soaked blood does he get drunk too?
I always thought that would happen.
Probably, but not very fast. Even a really, really drunk person only has blood about as potent as a light beer.
Then again, blood they suck might enter their bloodstream directly or something, and then they would be just as drunk as whoever they ate.
I don’t know.
In this instance, I would think it would be a very good theoretical practice to take into account the rate at which the blood transfers vs. potency of alcohol, plus the age of the vampire (if age = power = resilience), and specifically, if other blood loss had occurred to either vampire or victim. So the potential blood transfusion rate would depend on many factors, but I think, overwhelmingly, if blood interacted in the body of a vampire **mostly** the way it interacted in a human, then it would be safe to say that drunkenness, or even drugged effects, might occur for sure.
Welp, that’s one way to get a scar…
And that’s why you don’t drink and drive, kids.
So, let me get this straight:
If you drink and drive you will run over a vampire, he will decide youΒ΄re going to compensate with your blood, you will then also become a vampire and subsequently kill your parents. Seems legit.
No, but seriously, I had wondered why Raven is so pale compared to the others (even Gaki).
Raven, you creepy, creepy man….
This has all been one long build-up to a “Don’t Drink & Drive” PSA with Raven. π
Woah, I swear I checked for updates a couple times this past month, how did I miss a ton of pages? So much for relevant timing to info-drop. XD
TKGriffiths made a good catch back on page 7 that I haven’t seen anyone bring back up (even Arthur, which seems odd). Red is a faux-pas to wear to funerals in America, because it is seen as a bright, cheerful color (among other meanings that largely conflict with the intended tone of the gathering). You can get away with darker, less saturated reds–note the man with the scarf that is brown with arguably red leanings compared to everything else–but Raven could have offended more than just Arthur with his bright red tie. He was also smiling in all but one panel, which would have made him more solidly read as an insensitive jerk, rather than potentially someone who just may not have known about his tie being issue…but, since they arrived near the end when everyone started dispersing, he may very well have gone unnoticed by everyone else.
Also, his expression in the last panel on page ten is unsettling (as per B’s comment) because his eyes are so wide, despite what should be an eye-squintingly big smile. The top and bottom of his irises are covered a bit by his eyelids when his expression is anything but shocked, so even more iris should be covered when he offers a big, toothy grin. Instead, you can see the white of his eye underneath it, when his bottom lid SHOULD be pushed up a lot from how big that smile is. That cues that it’s most likely a really, really fake smile. His expression in the small panel before it doesn’t help matters, either–it looks patronizing, or pitying in that sort of “look at this pitiful, lesser creature” manner that implies he might think very little of psychics, or…well, any number of things. It’s hard to say what he categorizes as “lesser” as of yet.
From the look of things, I’d guess that he very deliberately toes the line of subtlety, sending up red flags for those who know how to recognize the little terrible things he does, while looking innocent enough to most people that anyone who decides to call him out would be the one viewed with skepticism, instead. Playing with people, as he practically admitted. Seeing how far he can push things, manipulating others so they’re seen as “crazy” while he plays up his charms to pass as harmless…never going so far as to overtly harm someone (on purpose), thus keeping himself from getting caught.
Oh! Since I’ve not yet expressed it despite following this comic for a while–thank you SO much A and K for giving us such an engaging comic, sprinkled with neat references that inspire people to look up things they may not have known about previously. It’s obvious that you’ve spent a lot of time planning out a thick web of intricacies for the plot and details of this comic, and yet the direction things will take remains mysterious and exciting. Absolutely well done on the writing, and I am in love with the art style. ChaosLife is also a delight to read (and, thankfully, usually much happier tone-wise), so I must thank you for sharing that, as well. π <3
Wow, lovely theories (and thank you so much)! I can’t wait to get more of the Chapter out to see what else will crop up. π <3
I read all the funnies. Then I came here and read all of these.
I really like the art style, and the writing is wonderful. You two can’t possibly create these two comics at the rate I want to be able to read them. π
Aw, thank you! We can’t possibly create them at the pace we’d like to, but I suppose that’s mortality for ya. π
Lucky! You JUST hit in a vampire. Poor you, Raven ): but you’re still creepy
